EPONINE MEETS > KAI
If you have ever purchased anything from Eponine, you'll know that we attach a little charm to to each piece (as well as a Catholic Miraculous Medal blessed by Jet's priest). These charms are made by Kai, a lovely lady based in Thailand who designs and produces them herself with her family and ladies in her village. We caught up with her, and found out more about what she does.
1. Where do you make the charms?
I currently make everything in my home (I live in a village near Uttaradit which is near Chiang Mai), but I dream about opening a shop! I would love for the shop to also double up as a restaurant as I love to cook.
2. How did you start making the charms?
I started by selling to Thai locals via a Facebook page. They loved it and word spread - I was so surprised!
3. Who makes the charms?
Me! I love making things and feel very blessed that I am based in a place where I can source such beautiful pieces and vintage textiles to make the charms with. Chiang Mai is the best place to source things.
I do have some help though - my Mum does some of the sewing and other ladies from my village make the tassles for the charms. My shop is very important for the local community as it brings an income for my family and the village!
